The Educational Instructor Day (EID) is an essential component of maintaining instructor competence and engagement within the ERC educational framework. The purpose of the EID is not only to meet certification requirements, but also to support continuous professional development and strengthen the connection between instructors and the National Resuscitation Council (NRC).

An EID may take different formats, such as a hands-on training day, workshop, meeting, seminar, or conference session. Regardless of the format, the Educational Instructor Day should focus on the following key objectives:

  • Updating instructors on recent changes to ERC guidelines, course rules, educational strategies, and assessment standards
  • Reinforcing high-quality teaching methods, including instructor performance, feedback skills, and learner engagement
  • Addressing challenges and difficulties instructors may encounter while delivering ERC courses
  • Providing a forum for discussion, exchange of experiences, and sharing of best practices between instructors and the NRC
  • Strengthening communication and collaboration between instructors, Course Directors, and the NRC
  • Ensuring consistent interpretation and application of ERC educational standards across all courses

During an EID, topics may include (but are not limited to):

  • Updates on ERC educational policies and CoSy procedures
  • Teaching and learning strategies in resuscitation education
  • Assessment and debriefing techniques
  • Quality assurance and course evaluation
  • Instructor responsibilities and professional conduct
  • Open discussion of instructor feedback, concerns, or suggestions

The overall aim of the Educational Instructor Day is to maintain high educational standards, support instructors in their role, and promote continuous improvement in ERC course delivery.
